Ubud Taxi Prices & Typical Routes (Indicative 2026)

Ubud sits inland in central Bali, so almost every ride here is longer than in the beach areas — and the fare reflects it. Below are typical one-way ranges to plan your budget. Fares are indicative for 2026; always agree the price (or use a metered/app fare) before you set off.

Route IDR (one-way) AUD (approx)
Denpasar Airport (DPS) → Ubud 200,000–450,000 $20–$45
Ubud → Canggu 250,000–350,000 $25–$35
Ubud → Seminyak / Kuta 250,000–350,000 $25–$35
Ubud → Tegallalang / Campuhan (local hop) 60,000–150,000 $6–$15
GoRide / GrabBike (motorbike, solo, no luggage) 10,000–40,000 $1–$4
Private driver, full day (temples + rice terraces, 10–12 hrs) 650,000–850,000 $65–$85

Getting a Taxi in Ubud: What’s Actually Different Here

Ubud is the one part of Bali where hailing a ride takes a little local knowledge. The centre is compact but the two main arteries — Jalan Raya Ubud and Monkey Forest Road — clog badly from mid-morning through sunset, so a 2 km hop to the Monkey Forest or the Saraswati temple can crawl. Walking is often faster than a car in the core.

Ride-hailing apps (Grab, Gojek) do work in Ubud, but several central pockets around the market, the Palace and Monkey Forest Road are informally controlled by local driver co-ops, so app pickups can be blocked or the driver will quietly ask you to walk to a side street to meet. Don’t be surprised by it — it’s normal here, not a scam. For the rice-terrace and temple circuit (Tegallalang, Tirta Empul, Gunung Kawi) a chartered private driver for the day is the standard move and usually better value than stacking separate app rides, because Ubud’s day-trip sights are spread across winding roads with no easy return fare. From the airport, budget 1.5–2 hours in traffic; a pre-booked fixed-price transfer removes the arrival-hall haggle after a long flight.

Ubud Taxi FAQ

How much is a taxi from the airport to Ubud?

Roughly IDR 200,000–450,000 (about AUD $20–$45) one-way, depending on traffic and car size, plus a small airport exit/toll fee. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the drive.

Do Grab and Gojek work in Ubud?

Yes, but several central areas around the market, the Palace and Monkey Forest Road have local-driver zones where app pickups are restricted — your driver may ask you to walk to a nearby side street to be collected. It’s normal, not a scam.

Is it worth hiring a private driver in Ubud?

For a day of sightseeing (rice terraces, temples, waterfalls) yes — a full-day charter is around IDR 650,000–850,000 (AUD $65–$85) and usually cheaper and less hassle than multiple separate app rides between spread-out sights.

How long does it take to get from the airport to Ubud?

About 1.5 to 2 hours by car, as Ubud is inland in central Bali and the route is prone to traffic near town.
